    Dr. Jay Winsten, PhD

    FOUNDER

    Dr. Jay Winsten served as Associate Dean and Frank Stanton Founding Director of the Center for Health Communication at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health from 1990-2020. Currently, he is a Lecturer in Harvard Medical School’s Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, and course director for “Creating Persuasive Media Campaigns”. Dr. Winsten is best known as the architect of the U.S. Designated Driver Campaign, which successfully introduced the designated driver concept into the American culture, contributing to a sharp decline in alcohol-related traffic fatalities and injuries.

    Hannah Chidekel, MPH

    SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER

    Hannah is a recent MPH graduate from the Harvard T.H. School of Public Health and is particularly interested in the connections between communications theory, narrative, and health. She has previously worked with public and private organizations to develop health communications campaigns on topics ranging from binge drinking to COVID-19. As Senior Project Manager for Project Look Out, Hannah oversees all arms of the campaign, including design, implementation, and evaluation.

    Katarina Cook, MS

    CAMPAIGN STRATEGIST & RESEARCHER

    A San Francisco Bay Area native, Katarina is a passionate health justice advocate, driven by her mission of mitigating the harms of structural violence, especially for those disproportionately affected by race, disability, and gender. As a proud MSc graduate from Harvard Medical School’s program in Media, Medicine, and Health, she is passionate about unraveling the root causes of emergencies, particularly in the sphere of transportation safety and preventable accidents. As Katarina aspires to become a physician-scientist, she seeks to marry her clinical insights with innovative research, uniting the worlds of medicine, human factors, and social advocacy.

    Bailey Merlin, MS, MFA

    COMMUNITY LIAISON

    Bailey Merlin is the author of A Lot of People Live in This House and a bi+ activist with a background in media, medicine, and health. She holds an MFA from Butler University and an MS from Harvard Medical School. Her writing has been published in places such as The Lascaux Review, 11 Seconds Magazine, Anti-Heroin Chic, Dime Show Review, Into the Void, among others. Based in Boston, Bailey lives in an intentional community with a dynamic cast of humans, a toddler, a dog, a cat, and a friendly ghost. You can find her work on baileymerlin.com. As community liaison, Bailey serves as a bridge between Project Look Out and its collaborating organizations and the local community, in order to facilitating effective and intentional communication, outreach, and successful objectives.

    Sahana Narayan, MS, MSPH

    MONITORING & EVALUATIONS SPECIALIST

    Sahana Narayan is an award-winning researcher, academic, and journalist with robust experience conducting public health research and producing data driven solutions as the lead study coordinator and evaluator. She is particularly passionate about maternal health, healthcare delivery science, improving health equity, and integrating social medicine into practice. She holds a Master of Science from Harvard Medical School and a Master of Science in Public Health from Columbia University. As Project Look Out’s Monitoring and Evaluations Specialist, she assesses the effectiveness and impact of the campaign's interventions, ensuring data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement for the achievement of PLO’s objectives.

    Elizabeth Zonarich, MS, MA

    VISUAL DESIGNER & STRATEGIST

    Liz Zonarich is a graphic designer and illustrator specializing in health communications. As a recent graduate of the Master of Science in Media, Medicine, and Health program at Harvard Medical School, she strives to convey public health messaging through visuals. As a member of Project Lookout, she visualizes data and designs content for both digital and print content. She also holds an MA in Design Management & Communication from Georgetown University.

  • Lawrence Weru, MS

    RESEARCHER & STRATEGIST

    Lawrence "Larry" Weru is an African American health advocate, scientist, full-stack developer, collaborative storyteller, visual artist, information designer, and TEDx speaker. He received his S.M. from Harvard Medical School where he was distinguished as a Dean's Scholar, and is a “Notable Nole” alumnus of FSU where he received dual Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degrees Biological Science and Studio Art.
